In order to attract meritorious students from the lower socio-economic strata of society, the NLSIU attempts to provide as many scholarships as possible. Besides scholarships, in deserving cases, full-fee concessions or half-fee concessions are also granted on the recommendations of the Scholarship Committee.


Scholarship Rules

Without prejudice to the discretion of the Scholarship Committee in the matter of norms and procedures to be followed in selecting the recipients of the awards, the Scholarship Fund shall be utilised according to the board schemes given below, namely:


1. Merit Scholarship

Students who secure C.G.P.A. of 6 out of 7 in the previous year will be given a Merit Scholarship Certificate and a token amount of Rs. 100/-


2. Merit-Cum-Means Scholarship

The following guidelines are applicable for the award of Merit-cum-Means Scholarship. Students of various classes considering their fee structure have been grouped into two categories

I, II, III & IV Year   CATEGORY 'A'

V Year                  CATEGORY 'B'

They are further sub-divided considering whether they are in the hostel or day scholars.

Norms of Category 'A'

(a) If the Annual net income is below Rs. 25,000/- students are entitled to a maximum of Rs. 3500/- per month in case they are in the hostel and Rs. 2750/- per month if they are day scholars. Merit need not necessarily be considered for fixing the amount of Scholarship.

(b) If the annual net income is between Rs. 25,000/- and Rs. 50,000/- and the student secures a C.G.P.A. of 4 out of 7, they are entitled to a maximum of Rs. 2000/- per month in case they are in the hostel and Rs. 1250/- if they are day scholars.

(c) If the annual net income is between Rs. 50,000/- and 75,000/- and the student secures a C.G.P.A. of 5 out of 7 they are entitled to a maximum of Rs. 1500/- if they are in the hostel and Rs. 750/- if they are day scholars.

(d) If the annual net income is between Rs. 75,000/- and Rupees One Hundred Thousand and the student secures a C.G.P.A. of 5 out of 7, they are entitled to a maximum of Rs. 1000/- in case they are in the hostel and Rs. 250/- if they are day scholars.

(e) Students whose income is above Rupees one hundred thousand and secure C.G.P.A. 5 out of 7, they may be considered only in exceptional circumstances and they are entitled to get a maximum of Rs. 250/- per month.

Norms of Category 'B'

(a) If the Annual net income is below Rs. 25,000/- the student are entitled to a maximum of Rs. 1125/- per month in case they are in the hostel and Rs. 700/- per month if they are day scholars. Merit need not necessarily be considered for fixing the amount of Scholarship.

(b) If the Annual net income is between Rs. 25,000/- and Rs. 50,000/- and the student has secured a C.G.P.A. of 4 out of 7, they are entitled to a maximum of Rs. 850/- in case they are in hostel and Rs. 600/- if they are day scholars.

(c) If the Annual net income is between Rs. 50,000/- and Rs.75,000/- and the student has secured a C.G.P.A. of 4 out of 7, they are entitled to a maximum of Rs. 650/- in case they are in the hostel and Rs. 400/- if they are day scholars.

(d) If the Annual net income is between Rs. 75,000/- and Rupees One Hundred Thousand and the student has scored the C.G.P.A. of 5 out of 7, they are entitled to a maximum of Rs. 350/- in case they are in the hostel and Rs. 150/- if they are day scholars.

(e) If the Annual net income is above Rupees One Hundred Thousand and the student has scored a C.G.P.A. of 5 out of 7, they may be considered only in exceptional circumstances for a maximum of Rs. 125/- per month.

Note:-All the scholarships are only for 9 months.

In case of any disciplinary action or proven misbehaviour of any of the students who have been given Scholarships, the Scholarship will be suspended and the amounts paid will be recovered.

Scholarship amount will be disbursed only after submission of necessary documents for proof of income shown by them in the application form.

The Scholarship Committee has the full discretion to fix any amount from the category after considering the candidature of an applicant on the basis of the evidence of personal financial problems and the grades obtained. In case an applicant fails to attend the interview, his/her case may not be considered for the Scholarship.

The Scholarship Committee also has the discretion to vary the amount specified in the category considering the nature and financial problems of the students.

The Scholarship amount sanctioned will be adjusted against the fees payable to the NLSIU or the mess bill during the year. In case there is any amount outstanding to the students after adjusting the fees or mess bill, the balance amount will be given to the student at the end of the Third trimester.

The allotment of the Scholarship to the student and its adjustment with the fees/mess bill will be communicated to the parents.


Academic Assistance scholarship scheme

This is intended to promote leadership, industry, participation and personality development of students while enabling them to get financial rewards for their contribution to the improvement of the academic environment of the NLSIU.

Under the Scheme, students in need of financial assistance can undertake academic and organisational responsibility under the supervision of Faculty members for not more than thirty hours per month. Those fulfilling such assignments satisfactorily can be rewarded at the rate of Rs. 20/- per hour, thus earning upto Rs. 600/- per month.

No student who has been awarded Merit-cum-Means Scholarship can simultaneously take benefits under the Academic Assistance Scholarship Scheme.


Fee exemption scholarship scheme

A limited number of grants may be awarded to deserving students in order to exempt them from payment of tuition fees. The number of such grants each year shall be decided by the Faculty of the NLSIU.

Fee exemption Scholarship are intended to assist students who come from economically poor families whose parents give satisfactory proof to the Committee that they are unable to pay the tuition fees and meet other expenses of their wards studying in the NLSIU.


Scholarships
The Shankaramma Wanaparthy Scholarship

This scholarship of the value of Rs. 500.00 per month is awarded every year to two or more students preferably from Andhra Pradesh who have been admitted to the LL.B/LL.M. Courses of the NLSIU. The Scholarship amount comes from the interest earned on an endowment of Rupees One Hundred Thousand instituted by the Rani Shankaramma Memorial Trust, Hyderabad in 1988.

Velakacherla Narasa Reddy Rural India Merit Scholarship

One scholarship is awarded every year to a student commencing the IV Year studies. Scholarship so awarded shall run for two years subject to satisfactory performance. The Scholarship amount comes from the interest earned on an endowment of Rupees One Hundred Thousand donated by Sri. V.R. Reddy, the then Additional Solicitor General of India.

Justice Venkataswamy, Mrs. & Mr. Mariappa Gowda and Mrs. & Mr. B. Narayan Scholarship

This scholarship is to be awarded to a highly deserving student of NLSIU towards his/her boarding/lodging charges in the University. The eligibility for award being decided by a Committee with three faculty members with Director as Chairman taking into account the student's academic performance and economic necessity. The scholarship amount comes from the interest earned on an endowment of Rupees One Hundred Thousand donated by Mr. K. M. Krishnappa and Mrs. Indira Krishnappa, residents of Cincinnati, Ohio USA.

Late Justice B. Vasudevamurthy Scholarship

The scholarship is to be awarded to deserving and meritorious students who are not otherwise able to join this University due to economic conditions.

Hemant Narichania Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded for II and III year meritorious students of B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) from lower socio-economics strata of society. Back to Home
