Prof. (Dr.) Ranbir singh
(Director)
L.L.M., Ph. D. (Kurukshetra)

The Founder Director Prof. Ranbir Singh joins the University with more than 25 years of experience in teaching and research and a reputation of building Institutions. He was the founder member of the Faculty of Law, Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Haryana. He worked there in different capacities as Professor, Head, Dean and Proctor of the University.

During his tenure as Head he organised the International Conference, Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA) Indian Chapter in 1994. He contributed a lot to the development of legal education being the Academic Member of the Legal Education Committee of the Bar Council of India, Delhi for the year 1995-96. He was invited to be a Professor of Law at the National Law School of India University, Bangalore for the year 1996-97. Presently he is the Academician nominee on the Executive Committee of the SAARC Law (India Chapter); a member of the Executive Committee of National Legal Services Authority, Member of the High Court Legal Aid Committee, is a member of the National Committee on IPR of the Confederation of Indian Industries; is on the Governing Council of the Indian Law Institute and is a Member of the Committee of Experts on Law of the National Commission for Women. He has delivered lectures at premier institutions like Sardar Vallabhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad, National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science, New Delhi, A.P. Judicial Academy, Hyderabad etc. Prof. Singh's doctoral thesis looked at the Constitution of India relating to "Minorities and the Law" and his legal writings span the field of Jurisprudence, Human Rights, Legal Education, Legal Aid, Personal Law and Justice Education. He has more than 30 research papers to his credit and has contributed to various national and international conferences and books. Winner of Excellence Award of the Rohtak University, 1998, several scholars have been awarded Ph.D. Degree under his guidance. Dr. Singh is widely traveled and has visited various countries such as USSR, China, Hong Kong, Srilanka, Switzerland, Cyprus, Italy, Canada and Australia.

In August 2000 the ICRC invited him to its deliberations at Geneva as the only representative from South Asia. Dr. Singh practices interactive teaching methodology which demystifies abstract concepts and promotes teaching as a process of deep learning.

Dr. Amita Dhanda
Professor of Law

Dr. Dhanda teaches Administrative Law, Law and Poverty, Law and Literature and Legal Methods.

Dr. Dhanda has joined NALSAR after a fifteen year stint on the Research Faculty of the Indian Law Institute, Delhi. She has written extensively on the legal position of persons with mental disability. Legal Order and Mental Disorder, her book on the legal status of persons with mental illness is a pioneering effort in the field. The Government of India and the Supreme Court of India have utilised her services to suggest far reaching legal and policy reform in the field of disability rights. Her research expertise has been drawn upon by international and national institutions such as the WHO UNICEF, NHRC, NCW, NIMH.

At present Dr. Dhanda is engaged in strengthening the research base of law reform and legal education by actively engaging with policy and law in the field of child rights, disability and environment.

Professor (Dr.) A. Lakshminath
Registrar, LL.M., Ph.D.

Professor A. Lakshminath with three decades of research and teaching experience received his Ph.D. Degree in law for his work on Comparative and Constitutional Jurisprudence & Judicial process from the Nagpur University. He started his teaching carreer in 1967 and became a Professor of Law since 1986. A prolific writer he has four books to his credit on Precedent in the Indian Legal System, Union-State Financial Relations, Lectures on World Legal System and Comparative Law.

He has visited Austria, Canada, Germany, Japan and USA for his participation in conferences. He was also a Fullbright Visiting Professor at University of Massachusetts, Fellow, Salzburg Seminar, Austria and Visiting Professor at Banaras Hindu University.

Professor Lakshminath's subject interests are that of Human Rights, Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Criminal Law among other segments of Law. He was also the Editor of Andhra University Law Journal.

Prior to his joining of NALSAR University he held the position of Dean, Faculty of Law at Andhra University and prior to that as the Dean, Faculty of Law at Nagpur University. He has served as Chairman and member of Boards of Studies in Law various universities, visiting faculty of Institutions of national importance like the National Fire Service College in India, Indian Ordinance Factory service college, National Productivity council, Lal Bahadur Shastry Academy of Administration, Mussorie.

He is also the President of Consumer and Environmental Organization (NGO) and takes keen interest in social & cultural activities.

Ms. Aruna Kanti
Lecturer

Ms. Aruna's areas of specialization are Tax Law, Intellectual Property Law and Law relating to Cyberspace. She has taken her Master's degree in Law from NLSIU Bangalore in International law. Her LLM thesis paper was on Taxation of Electronic Commerce, which was subsequently published as a book which she co-authored with her guide Prof. K.C. Gopalakrishnan. She is presently associated with NALSAR University of Law at NALSAR Proximate Education Centre, in the capacity of a Lecturer.

Dr. V. Balakista Reddy

Ph.D. (JNU New Delhi)

Dr. V Balakista Reddy, Assistant Professor of Law, specialises in International Law with a doctoral dissertation was on "The Law and Policy of International Air Transport: A Study of Some Contemporary Issues." He has moe than 7 years of research and teaching experience. An internationally recognised expert in Air and Space law Dr. Reddy presented papers on "Acrospace Technologies and Problems of Third World Countries" and on "The Application of Satellite Technologies in Civil Aviation: Emerging Legal Issues'' at the UNISPACE-III conference held at Vienna, Austria in July, 1999.

A prolific writer, Dr. Reddy has contributed extensively to national and international journals and his two co-edited books Air Law and Policy in India (1994) and Recent Trends in International Space Law and Policy (1997) have won international acclaim. He is also visiting faculty to the Asian Institute of Transport Development, the Indian Society of International Law, the Foundation for Aviation & Sustainable Tourism and the National Institute of Aviation Management and Research, New Delhi.

Dr. Reddy teaches International Law, Insurance Law, International Environment Law, International Economic & Trade Law, International Air & Space Law, International Litigation & Dispute Settlement, Globalization & Human Rights, International Human Rights Law and International Humanitarian and Refugee Law. He is also associated with development of PG Diploma in Insurance Law, Corporate Law & governance and International Humanitarian Law for NALSAR-Pro.

Prof. B. Errabbi
Visiting Professor
LL.M. (Ph. D)

Dr. Errabbi's area of expertise is Constitutional Law and International Law. With a teaching career spanning nearly four decades, Prof. Errabbi received many distinctions. He was a visiting scholar to Columbia Law School, New York, USA in 1971. He headed the Campus Law Centre of Delhi University in 1988 for one year. He was associated with Mara University of Technology, Malaysia as a Visiting Professor at the School of Administration and Law for four years from 1992-96. He was a member of the Curriculum Development Committee of the Faculty of Law, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal.

Besides teaching various subjects at both the undergraduate and post-graduate level, Dr. Errabbi has also guided several research scholars for their doctoral degrees. A prolific writer, Dr. Errabbi has more than 50 publications to his credit. His two books include `Law and Poverty' co-authored by him and edited by Dr. L.M. Singhvi. The other book is `Right on Travel under the Indian Constitution'.

He is a life member of several organisations like the Indian Law Institute, Society for International Law, International Institute of Human Rights Society etc. Dr. Errabbi is presently engaged in research on the `Constitutional Right to Personal Liberty' and `Judicial Activism in India'.

Mr. Ghanshyam Singh

Mr. Ghanshyam Singh specialises in Alternative Dispute Resolution, Procedural Laws and Environmental Law. He taught over a period of ten years at the Faculty of Law, Delhi University and the Department of Law, City University of Hong Kong. His passion for teaching and research prompted him to leave his lucrative practice of twelve years standing and take up full-time teaching. He practices interactive methodology of teaching, which promotes deep understanding and clarity of the concepts with effective and wide participation of the student inthe classroom. His teaching expertise has been drawn upon by the Indian Law Institute, New Delhi; ICADR, Hyderabad and Haryana Institute of Public Administration. And his administrative capabilities as Organising Secretary contributed to the fruitful conduct of the International Seminar on "Appointment of Judges" sponsored by Bar Association of India and the Indian Society of International Law. A prolific writer Mr. Singh is presently working on his Ph.D. on 'Institutionalised ADR of International Commercial Disputes in India".

Prof. K.C. Gopalakrishnan

K.C. Gopalakrishnan retired from Indian Revenue Services (IRS) (Income Tax) after serving 30 years in various capacities and joined the Faculty of National Law School of India University as Adjunet Professor of Law and Economic and Tax Law. He has had a brilliant academic record in India and abroad having done his M.A. (Economics) from Madras University (First Class with First rank), M.A. (Public Administration) from Toronto University, Canada, LL.B. from Bombay University and LL.M. and Certification in International Tax Programme from Harvard University School of Law, U.S.A. He has published about 20 articles on Taxation, Economics, Public Administration etc., in various journals in India and abroad. He has written Books on `Economics for Law Students' (Co-author Ramdas), `Text Book on Tax Law', `Legal Economics - Interactional Dimensions of Law and Economics', `E-commerce and Taxation' (Co-author Ms. Aruna Kanthi) and `International Tax Laws'.

Dr. Kalpana Kannabiran
Associate Professor
Ph. D in Sociology (JNU)

Dr. Kalpana Kannabiran specialises in Sociology of Law, Labour Studies and Human Rights. She has supervised the first LL.M. dissertation at NALSAR on the Protection Against Domestic Violence Bill. She was awarded the Rockefeller-Humanist-in-Residence Fellowship at Hunter College, CUNY in 1992-1993. Dr. Kannabiran is consultant with the Women's Affairs Division of the Commonwealth Secretariat, London, and Chair, Research Committee 32: Women in Society of the International Sociological Association. She is active in the area of policy and advocacy in women's rights and was invited by the Parliamentary Standing Committee of the Ministry of HRD, Government of India, in August 2002 to provide feedback on the Protection Against Domestic Violence Bill. She is co-author of De-Eroticizing Assault: Essays on Modesty, Honor and Power (Stree, 2002) and co-editor of Web of Deceit (Kali, forthcoming). She is a contributor to the Routledge International Encyclopedia on Women and writes for the national edition of The Hindu on contemporary issues.

Prof. Muralidharan
Visiting Professor

Prof. Muralidharan had his M.L. Degree from Madras University and is an IPR Lawyer based at Bangalore. He was a founding faculty with National Law School of India with more than two decades of teaching and research experience. He represented India in the Philip C. Jessup Moot Court competition at Washington DC, as a student in April 1979.

He is also a visiting faculty with National Law School of India; Bangalore, National Law University, Jodhpur, Indian Institute of Science and Indian Institute of Management.

As IP Practitioner, Prof. Muralidharan takes keen interest in spreading IP literacy and regularly lectures at seminars and conferences. HE was an International Visitor on IP Programme to USA in 1990 organized by the Washington Graduate School (USDA) and also participated in the International Law Seminar organized along with International Law Commission Meeting at Palais Des Nations, Geneva, Suisse, during May 1992.

He has his law offices `Manu Associates' at Bangalore and Chennai and his clients include IISC Bangalore, NABARD and Corporation Bank. Currently he is a Infosys Research Fellow at National Law School of India, Bangalore pursuing his LL.D. Degree. Mr. Muralidharan teaches Patents Law, Cyber Laws and Media Laws for NALSAR Proximate Education and also at the Justice Campus.

Prof. V. Ramakrishna
Visiting Professor
Ph. D in History (JNU)

Prof. V. Ramakrishna has 40 years of experience in teaching and research in History and has held several positions including Principal, Jawahar Bharati, Kavali, Dean of School of Performing Arts, Fine Arts and Communication and Head, Department of History, Central University of Hyderabad during the period 1987-1998. He was Visiting Professor, Institute of Modern Historical Studies, Berlin in 1997. Realising the academic need for historical studies at the regional level, he co-founded the Andhra Pradesh History Congress in 1976 and has been General Secretary of the Indian History Congress. His specialisation is in the area of Modern Indian History. His book, Social Reform in Andhra has been published both in Telgu and English. Prof. Ramkrishna has also written and published extensively in Telugu and is currently engaged in collaborative project on the Comprehensive History of Andhra. He has had a distinguished career as a historian and has been member of several national bodies. He has played a significant role in the area of curriculum development.

Dr.R.V. Ramana Murthy

Dr. R.V. Ramana Murthy teaches Principles of Economics, Economics of Law and Law and Poverty. He is also involved in a research project in 'Village Resurvey', a study in Rural Transformation in South Asia. His doctoral dissertation is on 'Inflation in Indian Economy' in the area of macroeconomics that explores into price behaviour and casual mechanisms under Post Keynesian framework. His M.Phil study looks at 'Seasonal Labour Migration from Semi-Area'. His publications include 'Inflation in India: A Non-Monetarist Approach', 'Contract Labour and Bondage in A.P. (India)'. 'Price Behaviour in Macroeconomy: A Sectoral Approach in Finance India'. His areas of interests are Development Economics, Macroeconomics, New Institutional Economics, Law and Economics and Environmental Economics and Political Economy.

Mr. K.P. Sampath Kumar is a Patent agent and an Intellectual Property Consultant. He specializes on Patents, Trademarks, Copyright, Internet & Software Law, Patents & Biotechnology, Pharmaceuticals/Genetically Modified Foods et al, USFDA, IP Licensing Techniques, and Intellectual Property Management etc. He Lectures and Researches on WTO/WIPO Multilateral Negotiations. He has more than a decade and a half of experience at premier. Corporations in India and abroad, in International Trade Operations, Servicing International Turnkey projects, Collaborations, Joint Venture etc; also International tendering under World Bank/IBRD/EXIM bank funded projects. He has extensively traveled Europe, United States, Middle East, South Asia, and Africa in his professional capacity.

Dr. K.V.S. Sarma

Dr. K.V.S. Sarma is currently working as an Associate Professor of Law and has specialised in Business Laws. He obtained his B.L. Degree from Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anantapur, M.L. (Gold Medal) from Andhra University, Waltair specialising in Business Laws and also obtained Ph.D. from Berhampur University on Consumer Protection Act- A Socio-legal Study. He is a faculty member in International Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution teaching commercial Laws. He also worked as resoruce person for delivering lectures to M.L. students of Annamalai University at Madras, Hyderabad and Delhi. He also worked as resource person for M.L. students of Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. He taught M.L. students of Osmania University for five years. He is invited by the Central University, Hyderabad to be a member of Programme Advisory Committee for the Post-Graduate Diploma in Cyber-laws and Legal Information Systems. He has authored two books, five monographs and has published several articles in leading law journals. He enrolled as an Advocate in the Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh in the year 1983.

Dr. M. Sridhar Acharyulu

Dr. Madabhushi Sridhar has received a doctorate in `Freedom of Press and Defamation' (Media Law) and also has a Masters Degree in Communication and Journalism. He has also undergone training in advance techniques in mass media in Czechoslovakia and currently pursues post-doctoral research in media law. He pursues his journalistic interests by contributing regularly in various newspapers, magazines and online website journals.

Dr. Sridhar contributes regularly to vernacular press and has developed course curriculum in distance educational on `Women and Law' and Human Rights for Ambedkar Open University . He has written the modules for PG Diploma in Media Law, a Nalsar-proonline course, and developed another PG Diploma in Insurance Law.

His special focus is on Legal Language, Women & Law and Judicial Activism. He has several book and articles to his credit in both Telugu and English. Dr. Sridhar teaches Tort Law, Criminal, Media Laws, Insurance Law, ADR methods and Child Rights.

Mr. Srikrishna Deva Rao
Associate Professor LL.M., (Kakatiya) M. Phil. (NLSIU)

Mr. Srikrishna Deva Rao specialises in Human Rights, Criminal Law, Community Disputes Resolution, Public Advocacy and Legal Services. He has over a decade of experience in teaching and research including a stint as Assistant Professor of Law at the National Law School, Bangalore and Lecturer at Delhi University. He has been associated with the Human Rights movement in India over two decades. He has participated in an intensive study programme for University Professors to develop specialised teaching in the field of human rights at the International Centre for University Human Rights Teaching, Strasbourg, France in 1994.

Mr. Rao also had a traineeship on International Humanitarian Law at the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC), Geneva in 1994. His M. Phil thesis on "Custodial Deaths in India" has attempted to assess the effectiveness of the institutions, structures, policies and principles developed to regulate custodial violence in India. He has been active at national and international levels in debates on Torture and Human Rights.

He has published over 30 research articles in national and international journals. He prepared the first report on "State of Human Rights in India" in 1998. He has assisted the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative, South Asia Human Rights Documentation Centre, Legal Resources for Social Action and Indian Medical Associated in their research projects.

Ms. G.K. Sandhya

Ms. G.K. Sandhya teaches two courses at NALSAR viz. Law and Language and Law and Literature. She recently submitted her doctoral dissertation on Indian spiritual autobiographies in English. She also has a certificate in French and Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism and Public Relations. Ms. Sandhya is currently exploring linkages between Law and Indigenous Literature and Law and Film. Areas of her interest are Theatre and narratives of spiritual experience.

Prof. M.V. Subba Rao

Prof. M.V. Subba Rao teaches Political Science at NALSAR. He was a member in Andhra University Academic Council in 1976-78 and twice Chairman of the Board of Studies in Political Science of the Andhra University.

Ms. N. Vasanthi
Lecturer
LL.M. (Osmania)

Ms. N. Vasanthi teaches Labour Law and Taxation. Her LL.M. dissertation was in the area of Constitutional Law with a focus on Secularism. Her doctoral thesis, under preparation, is on Environmental Law. She has presented papers at national and international conferences and has been actively involved in the Child Rights and Environment Projects at NALSAR.

Prof. Vepa P. Sarathi
Visting Professor
M.A., B.L.

Prof. Vepa P. Sarathi, was enrolled as an Advocate in 1942, designated as Senior Advocate by Supreme Court of India in 1976. As a member of the Law Commission (Chairman Mr. Justice Mathew, retired Judge, Supreme Court, 1983-85) he has richly contributed for the development of law especially in Consumer Law, Promissor Estoppel and Contrat `d' adhesive (Adhesive Contracts). As a Senior Advocate, Sarathi appeared in the Bhopal Gas Leak Case on behalf of Government of India as the Learned Attorney General's Representative in the District Court at Bhopal and the High Court at Jabalpur. Prof. Sarathi was also Advocate General for Sikkim from January 1990 to October 1994 and from October 1994 to 31st December 1994, he was Chairman of the Sikkim Law Commission. Prof. Sarathi authored books on Law of Evidence, of which the Modern Law Review of England, said that "the English reader will sadly reflect on the death of comparable work in his own country", Law of Transfer of Property and the Interpretation of Statutes. Prof. Sarathi was also an Assistant Editor of Supreme Court reports from 1964 to 1976; He was the Guest Faculty at Indian Law Institute, New Delhi (on Delegated Legislation), A.P. Judicial Academy, Osmania University. At present, he is a Guest Faculty at the National Police Academy and also a visiting Professor of Padmavathi Viswavidyalayam at Tirupathi. He has contributed several research articles in National Law Journals. Prof. Sarathi is regularly contributing to the Annual Survey of Indian Law for ILI for the last 30 years

Professor Sarathi teaches Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code, Transfer of Property, Indian Evidence Act and the Constitution.

In 1977-78 Prof. Vepa Sarathi was the Legal Asst. to Chairman (Mr. Justice Goswami) Retd. Judge Supreme Court of Indian of the Press Commission.

Ms. Vidyullatha Reddy

Ms. Reddy teaches environment law, Evidence and Succession. She has been the Principal of Maniar College of Law, Khammam. She has published several articles in law journals and has completed her doctoral thesis, titled, "Enforcement of Environment Legislation in Twin Cities".

Dr. Vijender Kumar

Dr. Vijender Kumar, Assistant Professor, specialises in Personal Laws and Legal Methods. His doctoral research is on "A Socio-Legal Study of Sonship and Adoption under Hindu Law." He has published more than fifteen research articles on Hindu Law, Jurisprudence and Environmental Law in the Journal of the Indian Law Institute, Andhra University Law Journal, Andhra Law Times and Supreme Laws Today (SLT). He has contributed a paper for FESTSCHRIFT Volume (Constitutional Jurisprudence and Environmental Justice) in honour of Professor A. Lakshminath published by Andhra University and also reviewed more than ten Books from different Law Publishers and Authors. He has guided students in publications of their research articles. He has also five years of experience at the Bar.

Mr. V.C. Vivekanandan

Mr. Vivekanandan teaches Intellectual Property Laws and Cyber Laws. He is also the Coordinator of NALSAR Proximate Education offering Post Graduate Diploma Courses in Cyber Laws, IPR, Media Laws and International Humanitarian Law. He worked as a faculty with National Law School, Bangalore and University Law College, Bangalore.

He also had a successful stint in Journalism in various capacities including that of an Editor with various business publications. He has written various articles on business trends, stock market, budget analysis and media policy. Currently he is the series editor of NALSAR Pro Publications. His interests include theatre, music and publishing.

He has travelled widely in Europe, USA, South-East Asia as a journalist and visited United States as an "International Visitor" on IPR Programme. He is also member of advisory committee of the VIC Project of ICICI Knowledge Park, Hyderabad and is also the Coordinator of the NC Banerjee Centre of Intellectual Property Law studies.
